just a mom figuring it out one day at a time

See Positive- There Really is Beauty Everywhere

Since Monday I have found myself in a perpetual funk. Maybe it was the dreary weather, or the allergy medicine I’m taking or just plain old me… I simply don’t know. But somewhere along the way I recognized that I was failing to see the positive, or even a bright spot, in anything.

I just couldn’t do it.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the drama of the day. To focus on the negative. To refuse to see positive. I know that this is ultimately not what I want, yet it still happens.

OK I’m about to get airy fairy here, but being a child of hippies did impart something on me…

I truly believe that the world and this life are what you make of them. The energy that you put out there is precisely what you will get in return, so I know that I need to turn things around and find my bright spot on even the grayest of days.

This week I had the opportunity to meet with a very cool photographer, Rebecca Cartwright of Zest Photography,  who gave me a mini refresher course on photography.  We met on a day where it felt as if everything was washed out by the perpetual cool mist permeating the air. One of the things she said really struck me. Rebecca said that she likes to shoot in nature and with what the eye sees because there is beauty everywhere.

So I shot this photo. My bright spot on an otherwise glum day.

There really is beauty everywhere, but sometimes we just have to make an effort to see it.  So dear readers, I wish you all the ability to see just one thing of beauty today. It could be a gesture, or a flower or the way the sun hits a building or a tree.

Enjoy.
